Counseling for New Mothers
I want to normalize that, at times, it can be upsetting and frightening to have feelings about motherhood that don’t seem “right” during those first days/weeks/months and even years with your baby.
For some new mothers, a walk around the neighborhood, a healthy diet, help and support from family, friends, and even a support group are sufficient to get through the initial adjustment period. For others, talking to a therapist specializing in new motherhood issues and postpartum disorders/complications can be healing, comforting, and enlightening.
Common postpartum symptoms include:
- Feeling overwhelmed and wondering if you should have become a mother in the first place
- Feeling guilty due to high self-expectation
- Feeling empty and numb as if you’re going through the motions
- Your thoughts are racing, and you can’t quiet your mind
- You are struggling to feel “bonded” with the baby
- You have lost focus and are not able to concentrate
- You are afraid that if you reach out for help, others will judge you
- You have thoughts of running away or leaving your baby behind
- You are constantly in a state of worry
If one or more of the above symptoms resonates with you, I invite you to contact me today for a free consultation. Together, we’ll find the underlying issues that make you feel disconnected from your baby and create a strategy for moving forward. I have experienced several of the above symptoms during my postpartum period. I see you, Mama; contact me today to see how I can help.
